DriveClub PS4

A beautiful picture is only engaging for so long, however, and a pretty face without substance soon becomes boring and shallow. DriveClub sets out to avoid this by focusing sharply on its provision of social features, the kind of ingredients designed to spark and promote both rivalry and teamwork with other players in a way that feels more meaningful than anything the AI could possibly offer.

Driveclub looks great but once you get into the game you soon discover some simple menus and basic racing, with standard time trial options combined a small number of drifting events and quickly becomes very bland. The game lacks realism and of course, the edge that comes with the element.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor review

Shadow of Mordor still looks stunning on lower settings, and even if you can’t experience the glory that is Ultra, you shouldn’t miss out on what’s undeniably the best Lord of the Rings-based game to date. Oh, and there’s a dwarf (though beardless). As a member of the Fellowship of the Beard, that always counts for something in my book.

Middlearth: Shadow of Mordor is a really great game which is constructed with some brilliant parts, very well sewn together, and totally worthy of running under the prestigious LOTR banner, go get it!

Forza Horizon 2

( http://www.cargames.us.com ) The first Forza Horizon set a new standard for open-world racing games, and Forza Horizon 2 has comprehensively updated that standard. The location is right, the car list extensive, the handling nuanced but accessible, and the visuals are excellent. Above everything it’s always fun, whether you’re in a ludicrous Land Rover race or sniffing out a hidden Barn Find. Forza Horizon 2 is Test Drive Unlimited, PGR, Smuggler’s Run, and Forza Motorsport all crammed into a T-shirt cannon and fired into your face. It wears its inspiration on its sleeves but damn if that’s not a killer combination.

Forza 2 is seriously entertaining, with a wonderful picturesque and open world to explore with some awesome water affects. The visuals in this game show a significant evolution, with water the star of the show, just a shame that their is no Autovista mode!

Age of Wonders III

I actually think Age of Wonders III is probably a deeper, better 4X game than its recently-released, also-fantasy-themed counterpart, Warlock 2. Once you actually get into Age of Wonders III there’s a great tactical combat game and a fairly good strategic level to entertain you. But getting into Age of Wonders III takes patience and resolve—more than any 4X game should require in 2014, considering that the fundamentals of the genre haven’t changed in years. Age of Wonders III flubs basic user interactions, and as a result is a chore to get started.

Niggles aside, Age of Wonders 3 provides tactically rewarding battle based action with a battles an easy to use overall empire management system. The game has a tendency to aim your focus towards the battlefield, whilst managing to keep everything else firmly in the background, which from my point of view at least, is a BIG thumbs up.
